Sanco carries a wide variety of polyester and vinyl ester resin formulations for all of your manufacturing needs. Whether you run an open-mold shop or a closed-mold production line, we’ll help you match the right resin to your process, your parts and your budget, and back it up with the fillers, gel coats and service Sanco has been known for since 1985.
Polyester Resins
Polyester resins are ideal for open molding as well as closed molding processes such as vacuum infusion processing, RTM, filament winding, and pultrusion. They are the workhorse of the composites industry: economical, easy to process, and available in formulations tuned for specific applications.
General Purpose
Orthophthalic (Ortho)
Ortho-based general purpose resin. A cost-effective choice for everyday laminating, cultured marble and parts that won’t see harsh heat or chemical exposure.
Heat & Corrosion
Isophthalic (Iso)
Iso-based resin with higher heat distortion and improved corrosion resistance. Good for parts exposed to water, heat or mild chemicals, where you need more toughness than a general purpose resin gives.
Cosmetics
Dicyclopentadiene (DCPD)
DCPD-based resin for low shrinkage and improved cosmetics. Less shrinkage means less fiber print-through and a smoother finished surface on visible parts.
Processes we supply
- Open molding: hand lay-up and spray-up for parts of almost any size.
- Vacuum infusion: low-viscosity resin drawn through dry reinforcement under vacuum for strong, consistent laminates with lower emissions.
- RTM (resin transfer molding): resin injected into a closed, matched mold for good finish on both sides and repeatable parts.
- Filament winding: continuous fiber wound around a mandrel for pipe, tanks and other cylindrical parts.
- Pultrusion: fiber pulled through a resin bath and heated die to make continuous profiles such as rod, channel and grating.
Vinyl Ester Resins
Sanco offers vinyl ester resins that provide increased strength, corrosion resistance and durability. When a part has to stand up to aggressive chemicals, high temperatures or repeated impact, vinyl ester is the step up from polyester.
- Maximum corrosion resistance: these vinyl ester resins are formulated for maximum corrosion resistance.
- Heat resistant and durable: they are heat resistant and blended for durability.
- Excellent impact strength: they are tougher and less prone to cracking than standard polyesters.
Typical uses include corrosion-resistant tanks, pipe, ductwork and scrubbers, and marine laminates, where a vinyl ester skin coat behind the gel coat helps guard against water blistering.
Marble Resins
Making cultured marble, onyx or granite? Sanco’s marble resins are formulated specifically for casting, with good color consistency, excellent release properties and good thermal shock properties to withstand years of use. Pair them with Sanco fillers and gel coats for a complete casting system from one supplier.
Not sure which resin is right?
Tell us a little about your operation and we’ll recommend a starting point:
- Your molding process (spray-up, hand lay-up, infusion, RTM, winding or pultrusion)
- What you’re making, and the heat, water or chemicals it will be exposed to
- The gel time and cure schedule your shop needs
- Your typical order volume and packaging preference
